Romania Seeks New IMF Loan, after Trilatteral Commission Meets in Bucharest

Romania will ask for a new loan from the International Monetary Fund, next week, as the Fund’s delegation is expected to return to Bucharest. The anouncement was made by the Romanian president, on the second day of the Trilatteral Commission’s summit in Bucharest.

Traian Băsescu, the Romanian President, is also the host of a state dinner in the honour of the 390 members of the Trilatteral Commission. Romania has already taken a large loan of about 20 billion Euros from the IMF. The country’s foreign debt already tops 80 billion Euros – although, in 1990, its foreign debt was practically equal to zero.
