Half of Romania Longs for Communism

21 years after the bloody fall of the Ceauşescu regime, almost one in two Romanians feels that they would have lived a better life if the revolution hadn’t happened, it is revealed in a survey conducted by IRES (the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy). 84 percent of Romanian think it was wrong to execute Elena and Nicolae Ceauşescu without a thorough trial. 60 percent of Romanians regret the death of the ruling couple. 61 percent of the people who were interviewed in the survey estimate that they live worse than 21 years ago. As to the question to the nature of the change of power, 45 percent of Romanians believe it was a revolution, while 45 percent think it was a political and military coup.
