Miners Trapped Underground After Blast, Feared Dead

Up to six miners in Romania are believed to be trapped deep underground, after an explosion occured in a mine in Uricani, Romania. Rescue teams have already descended underground in a bid to save the victims. Two members of the Romanian cabinet also rushed to the scene, the secretary of the interior, Traian Igaş, and the labour secretary, Ioan Botiş.

Five or six electricians were working in the mine at the moment of the blast and no information have transpired so far about their fate. Sources fear the worst about the workers trapped beneath, but medics are on alert to give the victims first aid after they are brought to the surface.
