Adrian Mutu, in close relations with suspected crime leader

Football player Adrian Mutu was in close relations with one of Romania’s suspected organized crime leaders, Nuredin Beinur. The latter is now standing trial, accused on several counts of blackmail, extortion and abuse. A telephone conversation between Mutu and Beinur, recorded by the secret services in May 2010, reveals that Mutu would receive gratuities at Beinur’s restaurant in Constanţa, by the Black Sea.

The football player was also arranging a fake news story with Beinur, in which he would seemingly be buying a piece of property in Turkey and thus be covertly advertising for the developer. Mutu allegedly asked for the sum of 50.000 Euros in return for the fake news story. Finally, Beinur offers to the football player a good deal on some gold jewelry for his wife, Consuelo.
